The iconic romantic film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (DDLJ) is marking its 30th anniversary. Both lead stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, have shared their reflections on the movie’s enduring legacy.
Shah Rukh Khan, who portrayed the beloved character Raj, expressed profound gratitude for the global affection the film continues to receive. Speaking to Variety, he admitted, “It doesn’t feel like ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ was released 30 years ago.” He added that no one could have imagined the film would capture hearts worldwide as it has.
Khan noted the significant cultural impact DDLJ had in India and South Asia. He observed how the film encouraged discussions about falling in love and marriage.
He attributed the movie’s immense success to the collective efforts of the entire team and the vision of director Aditya Chopra.
Kajol, who starred as Simran, highlighted her character’s deep connection with audiences. She stated that Simran represents millions of young Indian girls.
She also pointed out the film’s remarkable generational appeal. Audiences who adored DDLJ at 16 are now introducing it to their children, fostering an even deeper appreciation over time. Kajol affirmed its status as an exemplary work in Indian cinema.
