CSK's Debutant Shek Rasheed Overcame Poverty, Father's Job Losses to Reach IPL.

Chennai Super Kings gave 20-year-old Sheik Rasheed a chance to debut against LSG. Rasheed’s life story is inspiring – from poverty to playing in the IPL. He’s known for his explosive batting, having scored a century in just 17 T20 matches.

Who is Sheik Rasheed?

Rasheed was born on September 24, 2004, in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. He started his professional cricket career in Hyderabad’s Dilsukhnagar. His big break came when he was selected for the Indian squad in the 2022 Under-19 World Cup and was made vice-captain.

Although COVID limited his playing time, Rasheed made the most of it, scoring 201 runs at an average of over 50 in four matches, including two half-centuries.

Rasheed’s Father Made Sacrifices

Rasheed’s father, Sheik Balisha, played a huge role in his success. Balisha drove Rasheed to training every day, covering 80 kilometers. His efforts paid off when Rasheed was selected for age-group cricket. Despite Rasheed’s rising success, Balisha lost his job twice. According to some reports, he previously worked at the State Bank of India’s loan department.

Rasheed was part of CSK’s squad in 2023. His journey is a testament to his hard work and his father’s support.
