Cricketer-Actor Yograj Singh: Never Demanded Fixed Film Fees, Accepted $600 to $10,800

Former cricketer and actor Yograj Singh recently revealed his unusual fee policy throughout his extensive film career. He stated he never demanded a fixed salary, instead accepting whatever payment was offered to him.

Singh, known for his roles in over 200 films across Punjabi, Hindi, and South Indian cinema, disclosed these details during a recent appearance on the Fivewood Podcast. His payments for acting assignments have reportedly ranged from approximately $600 USD (50,000 Indian Rupees) to over $10,800 USD (900,000 Indian Rupees).

Referring to his approach, Singh remarked, “I have done so many films and songs, but I have never formally demanded a fee. I tell them, ‘Whatever you give me in a closed envelope, I will accept.'” He added, “I never asked for money. I never had a fixed salary. Sometimes I worked for 2,400 USD (200,000 rupees), sometimes 3,000 USD (250,000 rupees). Sometimes I even worked for 600 USD (50,000 rupees).”

His foray into acting in the 1970s faced strong opposition from his father, who disapproved, especially after Singh cut his hair. Discussions about films were strictly prohibited in their home.

Despite these personal challenges, Singh emphasized his commitment to professionalism, stating he never caused disruptions or financial losses on set due to poor behavior. However, he recounted an incident where a producer removed his chair from his vanity van while he was filming with an injured leg. Singh directly confronted the individual, asserting that a repeat incident would result in severe consequences.

Yograj Singh is also widely recognized as the father of former Indian cricketing star Yuvraj Singh.
