Cricket Talks: Cricket or Politics? Harbhajan recounted his plan for the future

Harbhajan Singh, who recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, wants to be associated with cricket in one way or another. However, he has not ruled out speculation of entering politics. He is not very clear about his future but says he will soon think about his next stop.

Harbhajan Singh said: ‘I have to sit down and think about what to do next. Whatever it is, I am thanks to the game. I would love to be in the game in the future as well. He said, ‘I’ll do something to stay connected to the game. I will mentor a team at IPL or make comments so I can stay connected to the game.

On the speculation of entering politics, he said: ‘At this moment I don’t know if I am entering politics or not. Maybe when the time is right, I too can make a decision on politics. We will see what will be the correct path ahead. But from what I’m sure I would like to be associated with cricket.

On the question of saying goodbye to cricket, Harbhajan said he made the final decision after consulting with close family and friends. Harbhajan said: ‘I was away from international cricket for a long time. For about five years. So it was in my mind that I should retire, but it took time to make the final decision. I consulted my wife, my mother, and my childhood friends. I felt like my time was up and I should have retired in 2016-17. So I decided that now is the right time to withdraw from the game.

Harbhajan has taken 417 proving grounds in his career. He is ranked 14th on the list of the highest test wicket takers. Sri Lanka’s Muralitharan (800) ranks first. There are only 3 Indian players ahead of him in terms of taking the most ground in test cricket. These players are: Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434) and R Ashwin (430). Harbhajan Singh has taken 269 wickets in ODI cricket. He is the twenty-second highest wicket taker in ODI.
