Covid-19: a new return to school under health protocol

A very special start to school this year again … For this 2021 school year, a health protocol continues to apply in schools, as in this establishment in Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc, in Gironde.

At the Jean de La Fontaine school, the CNEWS teams were able to attend CP and CE1 classes.

First observation: everything went well. Indeed, everyone seems much less worried than last year and tries to forget the health crisis, despite the various measures put in place.

Wearing a mask when entering school has become a reflex for many of the students. And children like their parents no longer seem worried about health measures.

“They’ve been dealing with Covid for almost a year and a half. They are used to it ”, summarizes Jean-Michel, father of Raphaël, 9 years old.

“I think we can keep the mask inside and outside we can take it off. It allows you to breathe because with the mask all day, it’s not very pleasant, ”said the boy for his part.

Here, as in many schools, the start of the school year is tricky to avoid contact between classes.

“We got used to unfortunately living with that, with these constraints and this protocol. We all want to return to a normal situation, ”sighs Sandrine Lucas, director of the Jean de La Fontaine school.

At the level of elected officials, these measures are costly for small municipalities. Here several hundred thousand euros are devoted to the fight against the virus.

“It requires more investment, more staff, for example when we clean a table between two services at the school canteen or when we acquire CO2 sensors”, concludes Christophe Duprat, the mayor of Saint-Aubin-de. -Medoc.
