The comedy world is no stranger to controversy, and for comedian Samay Raina, his YouTube show “India’s Got Laughter” has landed him in hot water. Currently in Canada for a series of live shows, Samay has been forced to cancel his upcoming gigs in India. But he’s not letting the drama get him down.
Imagine being on top of your game, with a string of sold-out shows lined up across the country, only to have them all cancelled due to controversy. That’s exactly what happened to Samay, who was set to perform in Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Surat this month. The shows, which had already been fully booked, were cancelled after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad threatened to protest.
In a statement on Instagram, Samay broke the news to his fans, saying, “Hello, I’m rescheduling my India tour. Refunds will be issued soon. See you soon!” He even included a folded hands emoji and a heart, showing his appreciation for his fans’ support.
But this isn’t the first time Samay has faced backlash. During his show, he made some comments that didn’t sit well with some people, and things quickly escalated. The controversy began when Ranveer Allahbadia, a guest on the show, made some comments about parents that were deemed offensive. Samay, trying to lighten the mood, joked about the situation, saying, “When you think I’m being too funny, just remember Ranveer… maybe I’m having a bad time, but I’m still Samay.”
The cancelled shows were supposed to take place in some of India’s biggest cities, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Fans who had booked tickets were notified about the cancellation through the app they used to purchase them.
For now, Samay is focusing on rescheduling his tour and ensuring that fans who had booked tickets receive a refund. Despite the setbacks, he remains committed to making his fans laugh and is already looking forward to his next show. As he said, “I’m Samay, and I’m not going to let a little controversy bring me down.”
