The India’s Got Latent controversy finally saw some closure as comedian Samay Raina broke his silence. After weeks of backlash over his comments on the show, alongside Ranveer Allahabadia, Raina appeared before the Maharashtra cyber police in Navi Mumbai on Monday. As part of the ongoing investigation, he presented himself to give a statement.
Raina apologized for his comments, saying they were made in the heat of the moment. “I regret what I said,” he stated. “It happened in the flow of the show, and I didn’t mean to say it.” He acknowledged his mistake, saying, “I realize what I said was wrong.”
Samay Raina’s First Statement
In his statement to the authorities, Raina assured them he would be more cautious in the future to prevent such incidents. He also spoke about the toll the controversy had taken on his mental health and revealed that it had caused the cancellation of his show in Canada.
Recording Samay Raina’s Statement
Initially, the Maharashtra cyber police had rejected Raina’s request to record his statement via video conferencing, insisting he appear in person. The investigation is being conducted with the support of the Mumbai police.
The Beginning of the Controversy
The controversy started when Ranveer Allahabadia made a lewd comment on India’s Got Latent. He asked a contestant about their genital size and made several other inappropriate remarks. Allahabadia also asked a contestant if they would prefer to watch their parents have sex or join in, a question taken from a YouTube show.
Court Scolding
The incident sparked nationwide outrage, with multiple FIRs filed and the Supreme Court taking a strict stance. Earlier this month, the court scolded Samay Raina, commenting that the younger generation thinks they’re oversmart and know it all.
