ColorOS 12 has arrived: these are all the news

ColorOS 12, based on Android 12, is here and brings some design changes and useful new features for users.

OPPO has made some changes to the overall look and feel of its mobile OS with ColorOS 12. The company calls it this Borderless design.

As the name suggests, ColorOS no longer uses edges for separation. Each item is placed on a translucent layer. The software now uses different shades of color to distinguish between primary and secondary information.

In addition, ColorOS offers a responsive design and adapts to different form factors, including tablets, folding devices, smartwatches, smart TVs and, of course, smartphones.

ColorOS 12 comes with new widgets which can be placed either on the left page of the home page or on this one.

ColorOS 12 arrives with ‘Quantum Animation Engine 3.0’. The new animation engine offers dynamic damping and extreme feedback. The system now recognizes the different elements that make up windows with different masses and inertia. As a result, the gliding experience feels smooth and real.

The latest version of ColorOS comes with AI Self-Smooth Engine 2.0. This mechanism reduces memory usage by 30%, reduces background power consumption by 20% and increases battery life by 12%.

Thanks to this mechanism, read and write degradation is less than 5% and performance loss is reduced to 2.75% with 36 months of use.

Free Floating Window is the advanced version of FlexDrop introduced in ColorOS 11. Windows can now be resized and moved anywhere on the screen with actions such as tap and drag.

Smart Sidebar is one of the most useful features of ColorOS. v2.0 brings support for smart functions depending on different usage scenarios.

For example, the sidebar now shows an option to compare prices when shopping online, helps users identify music when listening to it, offers a real-time translation option when playing foreign language videos, and shows a reading function in loud voice when reading something.

Now users can share multiple images at the same time with devices of any brand. The selected images will be uploaded to the cloud and an applet for WeChat, China’s most popular chat app, will be generated. The link to this applet can be shared with ColorOS users as well as non-users to deliver the images.

O interconnect between screens It is the OPPO version of HUAWEI’s multi-screen collaboration. Users can simply drag and drop to share files between PC and smartphone at a maximum speed of 45MB/s.

This feature also allows for screen mirroring with controls, clipboard sharing and screen capture sharing.

Minimum requirements for this functionality include a 64-bit Microsoft Windows 10 computer with at least 2.4GHz Intel Core i3 processor and 8GB of RAM. The PC also requires a minimum of Bluetooth 4.1 and WiFi Direct.

OMOJI is a copy of Apple Memoji. OPPO is the latest manufacturer to introduce its own digital avatars to users after Samsung AR Emoji and Xiaomi Mimoji.

OMOJIs can be used in video calls, AOD (Always On Display) styles and more. This feature is currently under development and will be available with the stable release of ColorOS 12.

Car + It is similar to Apple CarPlay and Google Assistant driving mode. Offers navigation, calls, music, video and voice control.

ColorOS 12 incorporates the new privacy features from Android 12. So, it comes with features like ‘Privacy panel, ‘Approximate location’ and notifications for camera, microphone as well as clipboard access.

There are also additional features like ‘Notification Smart Anti-Peepeing’ which hides notifications from others and sharing photos without metadata.

ColorOS 12 based on Android 12 will be available for a total of 50 smartphones from OPPO and OnePlus in China. At the moment, we don’t know the plans for deployment outside of China.
