CNZFE approves installation permits for eight new free zone companies that will generate 1,319 new direct jobs

The Board of Directors of the National Council of Free Export Zones (CNZFE) approved the installation permits for eight new free zone companies, which will be installed in various locations in the national territory, and are projected to generate some 1,319 direct jobs.

Likewise, the installation permits for two new industrial parks were approved, which will be located in the provinces of La Romana and San Cristóbal, with an estimated investment of some RD$725,876,335.87.

The executive director of the CNZFE, Daniel Liranzo, informed that with the start-up of these companies an investment of more than RD$428.7 million pesos has been estimated, which will have a significant impact on the national economy and generate some US$12.6 million of dollars for currency concepts.

Liranzo announced that the locations where these companies will be located are the National District, Santiago, Puerto Plata and San Cristóbal.

Among the activities that the new companies will engage in are call center services and technical support, manufacturing of ecological charcoal, manufacturing and processing of tobacco, and printing and embroidery of textile pieces.

Behavior of the sector

The executive director of the CNZFE highlighted that the free zone sector continues to demonstrate its productive capacity, registering between the months of January-February of this year, the value of US$607.7 billion, amounts that are above the value registered in the same period of the past year.

Liranzo added that the sector continues to experience sustained growth in the generation of direct jobs, reaching the number of 192,570 jobs in February, with the tobacco industry being the one with the highest generation of jobs during that period.

The Board of Directors of the CNZFE was chaired by the Vice Minister of Free Zones of the MICM, Carlos Guillermo Flaquer; the deputy director of the CNZFE, Yarisol López, the vice president of the Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona), Claudia Pellerano, among other representatives of operators and parks in the sector.
