Chrishell Stause Quits Selling Sunset After 9 Seasons for Mental Health

Chrishell Stause will not return for Season 10 of Netflix’s Selling Sunset. The 44-year-old reality star confirmed her exit, citing both financial independence and mental health concerns.

“I’ve gotten to a place where I don’t need the show financially,” Stause told Bustle in an interview published Friday, November 7. She added, “I’m lucky to have other avenues of employment, because it’s no longer good for my mental health.”

Stause, who has been with the show since its 2019 premiere, indicated she does not know if the series will be renewed.

“If they continue, I wish them the best,” she stated. “If they do another season, by then I might not even watch it. I don’t know.”

Despite her departure, Stause expressed gratitude for the opportunities the show provided. She acknowledged leaving under circumstances she would not have preferred.

“The show has given me so many opportunities and I don’t want to feel resentful,” she explained. “I think, after so many hours, I felt like: ‘Sit here, get through it. You’re not a quitter, but you’ll never have to do this again.’”

Her decision follows a particularly challenging ninth season. This season featured a controversial comment from Nicole Young about Stause’s deceased parents.

Stause’s friendship with Emma Hernan also strained due to Hernan’s relationship with Blake Davis. The season concluded with Stause and Hernan making amends, though they later lost contact.

Stause reflected on the season’s difficulties, telling Variety in October that quiet seasons often become the hardest. She had initially anticipated an easy run for Season 9.

The reunion special proved to be a breaking point for Stause. She described the experience as "brutal" and "an avalanche of people."

“At that moment, I realized my time here was over,” Stause said. “I wish everyone the best, but this is not my place.”

At the reunion, Hernan voiced frustration over Stause’s accusations against Davis. Stause had claimed Davis used a racial slur and mocked pronouns.

Stause defended her actions during the confrontation. She told Hernan, “I’m frustrated because I haven’t gotten any accountability from you.”

She added, “I did my best to be there for you as a friend. Every action I took was out of affection and love for you. I just want you to be happy and for someone to take care of you and know how to treat you. I’m happy to step back.”

Stause maintained that she holds no regrets about her time on the show.
