In a bold declaration, China’s President Xi Jinping announced a major initiative. He plans to work with all nations in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Their goal is to take this regional security group to a whole new level. The aim is to build a fresh global security system.

President Xi spoke on Monday at the SCO summit’s opening in Tianjin. He suggested this new system would offer a different path from the one led by countries like the United States. He told leaders from over 20 countries that the SCO has already shown how nations can work together in new ways. He praised its strong stand against outside interference.

The summit brought together many important leaders. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi were there. Many leaders from Central Asia, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia also attended. This gathering showed a strong sense of unity among countries often called the Global South.

President Xi explained that the SCO encourages countries to get involved in world matters in a positive way. He spoke out against any nation trying to dominate others. He also rejected what he called “power games” in politics. Instead, he called for all countries to work together as equals on the world stage.

Without directly naming the United States, President Xi urged SCO members to push back against “Cold War thinking.” He also spoke against “bullying practices” by powerful nations. He described the current world as “unstable and messy.” He believes the SCO offers a new model for international relations. This model, he said, focuses on “justice and fairness among nations.”

President Xi also encouraged SCO members to use their “huge market size” to boost trade and investment. He suggested they work together to create a “garden of civilizations.” He also asked them to make sure people have “correct historical views about World War II.”

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization started with six countries in the wide region of Eurasia. It has grown steadily over the years. Today, it has 10 permanent member countries. It also includes 16 other nations that are either dialogue partners or observers. This wide reach shows its growing influence in shaping world events.
