Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra recently visited her Sona restaurant in New York, which opened in March 2021 with Maneesh Goyal. The restaurant contains influences from a ‘timeless’ and ‘luxurious’ India. Sona, the name of the restaurant, was created by her husband Nick Jonas.
Priyanka spoke to Architectural Digest India about the restaurant. “India is so diverse. I grew up in timeless, luxurious India and I wanted that look.” She also revealed the interesting story of how her husband Nick Jonas came up with the name of the restaurant.
“We were brainstorming and all of a sudden my husband says, ‘Why not Sona?’ I asked him, “How do you know this word?” and he said that he learned it while he was shopping for his wedding while shopping for jewelry with his mother-in-law Madhu Chopra. His mother-in-law said: “Only diamonds for my daughter, it doesn’t sound like”, and the memory has stayed with him”.
The restaurant’s gourmet menu offers dishes from all over India, including Priyanka’s favorite ‘dosa’. Priyanka had recently hosted Nick and Malala Yousafzai at the restaurant, among others.
