Chauncey Billups’ Lawyer: Coach Won’t Risk Legacy Amidst Poker Charges

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups, following his release on bail, has denied federal charges alleging his participation in a high-stakes poker game manipulation conspiracy, with his attorney strongly asserting the accusations jeopardize his client’s esteemed legacy.

Billups’ lawyer stated that anyone familiar with the coach knows him as “a man of integrity” who would not engage in deception or fraud.

The attorney added that believing Billups committed the acts the federal government alleges would imply he would risk his Hall of Fame legacy, his reputation, and his freedom.

“He would not put these things at risk for anything, much less for a card game,” the lawyer emphasized, defending Billups’ character against the serious allegations.

Billups was accused of involvement in a conspiracy to manipulate high-stakes poker games, details of which remain under federal scrutiny.

The former NBA player was released from custody on October 24, 2025, after posting bail.
