CFE To Cut Power To Users In April Due To Non-Payment Or Irregularities

Electricity bills are coming due and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is on the lookout for those who can’t pay. If you’re late with your payment, you might just find yourself in the dark. The CFE has announced it will cut off power to certain users in April as a preventive measure against excessive consumption and overloads on the electrical system.

The CFE has four main reasons to cut off your power: unpaid debts, late payments, illicit use of the service, and billing adjustments. If you’re worried about your service being suspended, check your meter – a red light means your service has been cut off due to non-payment, while an orange light indicates a general failure.

But don’t panic just yet. The CFE gives you 30 days after the payment deadline to settle your debt. If you still haven’t paid after that, they’ll cut off your power. And if you’re 15 days late, they might just cancel your contract altogether.

Payment Troubles

If your service is suspended due to non-payment, you’ll need to pay the outstanding debt, cover the reconnection cost, and notify the call center. Reconnection fees vary depending on your contract type – $58 for monthly billing and $80 for quarterly billing.

Avoiding Power Cuts

To steer clear of power cuts, keep an eye on your bills and pay them on time. Check your receipts for any errors that might affect your service. And whatever you do, don’t use devices that tamper with your meter – like those so-called “diablitos”. The CFE conducts regular inspections, and if they catch you, they’ll cut off your service immediately and slap you with fines.
