Journalism student María Eduarda Brechane, 19, was elected at dawn this Sunday as Miss Brazil and will represent the country in the Miss Universe 2023 beauty contest to be held in El Salvador.
The representative of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, bordering Argentina and Uruguay, was crowned the most beautiful woman in Brazil during the contest held at the Pátio Welucci event center in the city of Sao Paulo.
Second place went to Bárbara Reis, from Mato Grosso (west), and in the third was the host candidate Vitória Brodt, from Sao Paulo (southeast).
Activist since she was fifteen, when she started a social work project in the field of education, mainly for victims of bullying, Brechane seeks to regain the title of Miss Universe in December, elusive for Brazil since 1968.
The only Brazilian winners of the main world beauty contest have been Iêda Maria Vargas, also from Rio Grande do Sul, in 1963, and five years later Martha Vasconcellos, from the state of Bahia.
