Farah Khan Reveals Her South Indian Mother-in-Law’s Kitchen Demands

Farah Khan, a judge on “Celebrity MasterChef,” recently shared her experiences with the challenges she faced after marriage, including her relationship with her mother-in-law. Farah married film editor Shirish Kunder in 2004. As Shirish is from a South Indian background, Farah had to adjust to the cultural differences in her new family.

During a visit to actress Karishma Tanna’s home, Farah shared stories about her early days of marriage. She recalled how her mother-in-law would ask her to grind spices on a sil batta, a traditional stone grinder, instead of using a mixer. Farah would often use the mixer, which would annoy her mother-in-law.

Farah said, “My mother-in-law once told me to grind the spices by hand, using the sil batta. I replied, ‘Who has the time for that?'” Karishma Tanna was surprised by this, and her mother-in-law explained that grinding spices by hand enhances the flavor of the food. Farah agreed, saying that spices taste good whether they are ground by hand or by machine.

In a previous conversation, Farah had mentioned that her food choices would often cause friction with her mother-in-law. On an episode of “Celebrity MasterChef,” Farah had invited Hina Khan and her boyfriend to cook, and she shared that her mother-in-law never cooked for her. Instead, she would only cook for her son, preparing traditional South Indian dishes like idiyappam, coconut chicken, and idli chutney. Farah’s experiences highlight the challenges of adjusting to a new family and cultural traditions after marriage.
