The never-ending spat between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj flared up again. This time, Nicki accused her fellow rapper of making up her album sales.
The latest drama kicked off on Monday, September 29. Minaj, 42, took aim at Cardi’s new album, "Am I the Drama?". She posted a series of tweets that she later deleted. In one post on ‘X’, Minaj simply wrote "$4.99." This seemed to hint at a special promotional price for Cardi’s second album on iTunes.
Minaj also mocked Cardi’s pregnancy in another deleted tweet. She twisted lyrics from Cardi’s song "Magnet" from the album. "Abcdefgeeeee / Falling off the charts with a big belly / TRAINS ON THE MOVE," Minaj wrote. "Barefoot, still stinking / Still. You. Could. Not. Sell. More. Than. Yooou."
Cardi, 32, wasn’t about to take those insults lying down. She fired back with her own series of ‘X’ posts later that Monday night. "There’s nothing more annoying than a boring he," she wrote. "The power I have… it makes these hes come out of rehab every time. Go to your damn room."
The Grammy winner then called Minaj "Cocaine Barbie." Cardi also brought up the criminal conviction of Minaj’s brother, Jelani Maraj. Maraj, 46, was found guilty in 2017 of predatory assault against an 11-year-old girl. He was sentenced in 2020 to serve 25 years to life in prison.
"A B C D E F G / Your man has to snatch P / The P tastes like honeycomb. Your brother is out here touching 12-year-old girls," Cardi wrote. In a separate tweet, she shared an altered photo of Maraj’s mugshot. It showed him wearing a bubblegum pink wig.
"Naaaa, because I was really baking ribs and making blondies and this h*e comes to bother me on a damn Monday," she added. "Damn, so many people were listening to ‘Magnet,’ huh? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣."
The "Bodak Yellow" rapper then suggested Minaj should stop comparing herself to Cardi. Instead, she should focus on artists who started their careers around the same time.
"Why do you keep mentioning my album? It’s not the joke you think it is," Cardi wrote. "You’ve been doing this for about 16 years… you need to compare yourself to your peers who started when you did. Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Drake… those are the numbers you need to compete with and you can’t because you’re below all of them… I was in high school when you came out, why are you comparing yourself to me?"
Cardi also criticized Minaj for talking about her pregnancy. Cardi recently shared that she is expecting her first baby with her boyfriend Stefon Diggs. She already has daughters Kulture, 7, and Blossom, 12 months, and son Wave, 4, with her ex-husband Offset.
"Well, this is the third tweet talking about my pregnancy… as if you don’t go to different fertility specialists because you can’t reproduce with all those percs (medications) messing with your eggs," Cardi claimed in an ‘X’ post. "NO, SUPPOSEDLY… Lord, protect my babies."
Other rappers also weighed in on the drama. Ice Spice seemingly responded by tweeting a laughing emoji. JT, from the group City Girls, appeared to side with Minaj after Cardi criticized her in "Magnet."
"Hahaha, that h*e is at home ugly and angry, no celebration!" JT, 32, wrote. She then backed up Minaj’s claim that Cardi made up her sales. "If I were number one I’d be breakdancing right now, but she knows she lied!"
