The data was offered by the financial and monetary authority through its Open Page, indicating that the volume of transactions made with debit, credit and prepaid cards, between November 24 and 27 (days before and after Black Friday) transactions with cards for RD$9,488.9 million were registered, for an increase of RD$2,491.5 million, equivalent to 35.6% compared to 2019, and RD$1,084.7 million, 12.9% compared to 2021.

The Central Bank highlighted that the rebound in card transactions on “Black Friday” this year is indicative of the increase in consumption and commercial activity, as well as the recovery of jobs in the economy, as a result of the measures provided .

He indicated that, for more than a decade, in accordance with The Monetary Board have been promoting a series of initiatives aimed at promoting and strengthening payment systemssuch as: the implementation of the Real Time Gross Settlement System (LBTR), the instant payment service for bank customers, as well as the approval and constant updating of the Payment Systems Regulation and its complementary regulations.

He added that this has been complemented by the approval of the Cyber ​​and Information Security Regulation and the start-up of a Cyber ​​and Information Security Incident Response Center for the Financial and Payment System (SPRICS).

He pointed out that, in the same way, the Monetary Board approved the entry into the payment system of financial technology companies (fintechs), dedicated to the management of electronic payment accounts, of which there is already one operating and another authorized to operate.
