Captain Jos Buttler: Jos became England’s new boss, the ECB handed over the team captaincy and was rewarded for his explosive batting

The England Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the new captain of the limited overs team. The ECB has decided to give the captaincy to explosive batsman goalkeeper Jos Buttler. Butler’s name was approved by the board just two days after Eoin Morgan retired from international cricket.

Butler has been part of England’s limited overs team for the past decade. He made his T20 International debut in 2011 and then made his ODI debut a year later. He was the vice-captain of the team since 2015 and during this time he also captained the team 14 times (nine ODIs and five T20s).

Speaking of Butler’s career, the 31-year-old scored 4,120 runs in 151 ODIs at an average of 41.20. During this, his bat also scored 10 centuries and 21 half centuries. In this his undefeated entry of 162 runs is his highest score. Also in T20, Buttler scored 2,140 runs in 88 games at an average of 34.51. During this, he has scored a century and 15 half centuries. His 101-run unbeaten innings here has been his highest score. He is only the third England cricketer to have scored centuries in all three formats.

England men’s team managing director Rob Key said of the board’s decision that Butler has been part of our limited overs team for more than a decade. Butler expressed his appreciation to former Captain Eoin Morgan after he was given the new responsibility and described him as a brilliant leader, saying in his statement that I would like to thank and express my gratitude to Eoin Morgan for his excellent leadership over the past seven years. It has been the most memorable period for everyone involved.
