Canon Unveils EOS R50 V Mirrorless Camera with Cinema-Level Features

Meet the Canon EOS R50 V, a compact and lightweight mirrorless camera that’s all about video. It’s packed with a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor and features you’d typically find in pro-level EOS Cinema cameras.

The EOS R50 V is built on the same foundation as the R50, but with a strong focus on video capabilities. It inherits features like Custom Pictures and color grading (LUT) from its Cinema EOS siblings. You can shoot 4K at 60p, with a 1.56x crop, and it supports 10-bit 4:2:2 color. It also includes Canon’s Log-3 profile, HDR PQ, and HLG.

This camera is designed with video in mind, so it doesn’t have a built-in viewfinder or flash. Instead, it’s got a tally lamp on the front and a big red record button that’s easy to access. The tripod socket can be used in both vertical and horizontal orientations, making it perfect for modern video shooting.

The LCD screen on the back is a vari-angle touchscreen with 1.04 million dots, just like you’d find on other video-focused cameras. The body itself has ports for a mic, headphones, and a remote, as well as a multi-function shoe for adding accessories like a mic without needing extra cables.

The EOS R50 V supports UVC and UAC standards, so you can plug it in via USB and use it as a webcam. It’s also got a Product Demo mode that quickly focuses on objects you hold up in front of the camera, making it perfect for live streaming or product reviews.
