Canon EOS R7: Rumors indicate that affordable APS-C RF cameras may be released

Recent rumors suggest that Canon may release more affordable RF cameras for our wallets.
And it seems that this could happen as early as 2022 and in a range where the long-awaited Canon EOS R7 is included.

Canon APS-C RF Cameras with Backlit Sensor

Some of the information is advanced by leaker Nokishita, who discovered two new Canon cameras registered with Russian certification bodies. Unfortunately, these certifications do not give any clue about the specifications of the new models, that is, there is no certainty if a Wi-Fi connection will be integrated.

However, these certifications are fueling speculation on the Canon Rumors site that, for some time, has been saying that Canon is preparing to launch APS-C RF cameras.

The same site now says that Canon will launch an APS-C RF camera with a backlit sensor in the second half of 2022, according to a source close to the brand.

What is known so far about the Canon EOS R7

The Canon Rumors website also advances that the resolution of the aforementioned backlit sensor will be between 28 and 32 megapixels and that it may be equipped with five-axis image stabilization.

In the video specifications, it is expected to be able to capture 4K quality at 60 frames per second or 1080p at 120 frames per second, in slow motion mode.

Apparently, the EOS R7 can integrate a version of the DIGIC X processor. Which means that the brand would update the DIGIC 8 from the EOS M6 Mark II model, skipping a generation. The explanation of this fact is simple. In Japan, the number nine is a sign of bad luck (or bad luck) and many Japanese companies would rather skip a generation than take risks.

Otherwise, it is speculated that the EOS R7 may be compatible with full-frame mirrorless lenses. However, many experts wonder if Canon will not offer dedicated lenses to this supposedly affordable APS-C RF line sooner.
