Canada Calls Early Election Amid Trump Trade Tensions

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made a shocking announcement – the country is heading to the polls on April 28. In a bold statement, he claimed Donald Trump is trying to undermine Canada’s sovereignty.

Carney, who recently took office, wants to strengthen Canada’s economy and tackle Trump’s tariffs. The US president imposed a 25% tax on Canadian and Mexican imports, changing the dynamics between the three nations.

“We’re facing a major crisis,” Carney said in Ottawa. “Trump’s unfair trade measures threaten our autonomy.” He accused Trump of trying to “break” Canada, saying the US president believes Canada isn’t a “real” country.

Trump has repeatedly suggested Canada should become the 51st US state to avoid tariffs. But Canada refused. Now, Carney is calling for a snap election, as expected by analysts, since he lacks a seat in parliament and his Liberal party doesn’t hold a majority.
