The Twins foisted their fourth straight loss on Musgrove (8-4), who made his first All-Star selection. The Padres are close to finalizing a five-year, $100 million deal with the pitcher that would start next year.
Sonny Gray (6-3) gave up a solo homer to Manny Machado with two outs in the third inning, but otherwise held off the Padres for five innings.
San Diego hit five homers en route to a 10-1 win on Friday, including a two-run shot from Machado. Gray allowed five hits, striking out five and giving up one walk.
Musgrove hasn’t won since the June 16 game against the Chicago Cubs on June 16. He allowed two runs on four hits in six innings, striking out eight and walking two.
For the Twins, the Venezuelans Luis Arráez 5-1 with a run scored. Puerto Ricans Carlos Correa 5-1 with one run scored and two RBIs and José Miranda 3-1 with two runs scored and one RBI. Dominicans Jorge Polanco 2-0, Gary Sánchez 4-0 and Gilberto Celestino 4-2 with an RBI.
