Business climate improves in the first quarter of this year

Clima empresarial mejora en el primer trimestre de este año

The Business Climate Index (ICE) continued to rise in the first quarter of 2022, going from 61.2 in the October-December 2021 quarter to 62.3 in the January-March 2022 quarter.

The Industrial Confidence Index (ICI) also showed an upward trend, going from 48.5 in the last quarter of last year (2021) to 51.5 in the first quarter of this year (January-March 2022).

The behavior for first quarter of the year of ICE is a consequence, according to the survey, of the balance of opinion of Dominican businessmen about the Dominican economy, the climate to invest and the company, which increased its value.

Instead, the balance of opinion on the international economy it fell from 11.22 to -1.52, and in the company branch it went from 22.92 to 22.73.

The evolution of this index over the last nine years is measured by the Industrial Situation Survey of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) from July-September 2011.

For that quarter, the sales balance in industries was positive and higher than projected expectations. The expectations were located at -4.5, while the balance was 9.0. Expectations for the next quarter (April-June) stand at 27.5.

The percentage of companies that exported decreased going from 79% in the October-December 2021 quarter to 75% in the January-March 2022 quarter and the percentage of companies that invested in “Machinery” increased, going from 26% to 29% from one quarter to another.
