Well, this is a curveball for Botafogo. Bruno Lage, the Portuguese coach, has decided to take the Brazilian club to court. He’s demanding a pretty hefty sum: 9.6 million Brazilian Reais, which shakes out to nearly 1.5 million Euros. Lage says his time at the club, from July to October 2023, wasn’t handled right. He believes his rights got trampled and he wants compensation for it, according to the ‘Fogo na Rede’ portal, which got a look at his formal demands.
Lage, who is 49 years old and currently without a club after recently departing Benfica, isn’t just looking for a payout. He wants compensation because his contract ended way sooner than planned. On top of that, he wants the image rights agreement he signed with Botafogo completely tossed out. His lawyer, Luís Miguel Henrique, claims the club used this image rights deal as a clever way to hide part of Lage’s real salary and cut down on their expenses. It sounds like someone’s got some explaining to do.
