Brazilian Tourist Dies After Falling on Indonesia’s Rinjani Mountain

A Brazilian tourist, Juliana Marins, fell to her death while hiking on Indonesia’s Mount Rinjani. She was 26 years old. Juliana had been traveling with friends in Vietnam before heading to Indonesia.

They started their hike up Mount Rinjani early in the morning with a guide. But around 6:30 am, Juliana slipped and fell down a steep slope near the crater. Her friends heard her scream for help.

Rescue teams tried to reach Juliana, but bad weather made it hard. They finally found her body on Tuesday, June 24, more than 600 meters down the mountain.

Juliana’s family said they were sad to announce her death. They thanked everyone for their prayers and support.

Mount Rinjani is 3,726 meters tall and attracts thousands of tourists every year. But many have died trying to climb it, including a Malaysian tourist last month.

The rescue team is still trying to recover Juliana’s body due to bad weather.

Rescue Efforts

The rescue team used drones to search for Juliana. They saw her sitting on the ground, alive and moving, but they couldn’t reach her.

On Sunday, the drone showed that Juliana was no longer in the same spot. The rescue team had to wait until Monday to find her again, but she had fallen farther down the mountain.

The rescue team stopped their operation due to bad weather. They started again on Tuesday and finally reached Juliana’s body.

Challenges

The rescue team faced many challenges, including heavy rain and thick fog. The mountain is very steep and slippery, making it hard to climb.

One of Juliana’s friends told a Brazilian TV station that the trail was very slippery and hard to climb. The visibility was also very poor.

The rescue team is still trying to recover Juliana’s body. They will try again on Wednesday.
