Brazilian Midfielder Lucas Fernandes Joins Juventude de Caxias from Portimonense

Every footballer’s path is a winding road. For Lucas Fernandes, a 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder, that road is now taking a decisive turn. He’s officially said goodbye to Portimonense, the Portuguese club that was his home for years. His next stop? Back home in Brazil, joining Juventude de Caxias, a team currently battling in Brazil’s top league.

Remember Lucas when he first landed in Portugal? He came from São Paulo’s youth system, a bright talent. He spent four seasons with Portimonense, first on loan, then as a full-time player. This was a significant period for him. He even earned a spot on Brazil’s Olympic squad while wearing the Portimonense jersey. That’s a real highlight in any player’s story.

But football can be a tricky business, full of changes. After his strong run, Lucas found himself on a series of loan spells. He played for Botafogo in 2022 and again in 2023. Then came a period at Cuiabá earlier this year. Most recently, he was with AVS SAD for the second half of last season. It’s been quite a tour for him lately.

Through all his adventures in Portugal, Lucas played 104 official games. He scored four goals and provided nine assists for his teammates. Now, he’s heading back to where it all began, but with new experience. This move to Juventude feels like a fresh start, a chance to plant roots again and get back to what he does best on the pitch.
