The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has set its sights on Jorge Jesus to take over the national team after parting ways with Dorival Júnior. According to A BOLA, talks are already underway to secure the Portuguese coach’s signature.
Dorival’s exit came fast after Brazil’s heavy defeat to Argentina. CBF officials held an emergency meeting and decided a change was non-negotiable. Jesus, currently managing Saudi club Al Hilal, is now their top target.
Timing could work in Brazil’s favor. Negotiations will ramp up in the coming weeks, and with no matches until June 4 against Ecuador, there’s no rush. The CBF wants to avoid another drawn-out saga like the one that brought Dorival in—only to fire him months later.
Jesus’s own schedule helps too. Al Hilal’s Asian Champions League run and the Saudi league season will wrap up soon, freeing him up for a new challenge.
Money talks, of course. A BOLA reports the CBF is ready to pay around €5 million (R$30 million) to pry Jesus away by April 1. If he stays until May, the price drops.
“A Dream Job”
Jesus has never hidden his interest in coaching Brazil. Last September, he told A BOLA it was "an ambition." Earlier this year, he even hinted at regret for not chasing opportunities sooner.
During an interview with Canal 11, he praised Ruben Amorim for taking the Manchester United job. "I get it," Jesus said. "This year, I had my dream but didn’t have the courage to leave. He did."
That dream? Brazil. Back then, he chose to chase trophies in Saudi Arabia instead. Now, with the stars aligning, both sides know this might be their last shot to make it happen.
