In 2004, doctors told filmmaker Anurag Basu that he had blood cancer. However, he now enjoys the life of him beating cancer. But, in those days his condition was very bad. Blood began to flow from Anurag Basu’s internal organs. The doctors told him that he only had 2 weeks to live. In those days his wife was pregnant. Speaking about his cancer journey, Anurag Basu said that it took him a long time to understand the seriousness of his illness. He had a big blister on his mouth. Doctors advised him to be admitted for medical examination, but Anurag Basu continued to shoot. Anurag says: ‘Suddenly at night Mahesh Bhatt stopped shooting. After that I went to the hospital. When I saw the faces of my parents in the hospital, I felt that something was wrong. But despite this, I sneaked out of the hospital to drink beer with Emraan Hashmi. Slowly my condition worsened and no medication was working.
Anurag’s condition had deteriorated so much that his parents stopped seeing each other. When Mahesh Bhatt came to meet him and placed his hand on Anurag’s forehead, his hand trembled. After him, Anupam Kher also felt that something was wrong. Anurag says: ‘My internal organs were bleeding a lot and people were coming to donate blood. My face was swollen. I couldn’t breathe. From the suffocation I realized how bad it was. People around me were scared because no treatment was working.
