Benfica Election: Three French Voting Sections Elect Three Different Winners

Benfica’s recent presidential election revealed a highly fragmented international voter base, with three distinct candidates securing victories across the club’s three polling stations in France.

In Paris, Rui Costa emerged as the frontrunner, capturing 2,527 votes. João Noronha Lopes followed with 2,112 votes in the French capital.

However, in Tourcoing, João Noronha Lopes secured the most support with 219 votes. Luís Filipe Vieira came in second with 190 votes, ahead of Rui Costa, who received 93 votes in that location.

Further south, the Marseille section saw João Diogo Manteigas triumph, earning 139 votes. Noronha Lopes garnered 78 votes, while Costa received 66 votes.

These varied outcomes in France reflect a broader pattern observed in the club’s overseas voting. Of the 18 international sections counted so far out of 25, Noronha Lopes claimed victory in nine.

Rui Costa secured wins in eight international sections. Manteigas, meanwhile, won in one international section.
