FC Porto is preparing for a tactical challenge against Nottingham Forest, drawing on veteran defender Jan Bednarek’s extensive Premier League experience to understand and counter manager Sean Dyche’s direct playing style.
Bednarek, who spent a decade competing in England’s top flight, is considered the most knowledgeable player in the Porto squad regarding Dyche’s tactical approach. He has warned his teammates about the opponent’s aggressive tactics.
Dyche is known for favoring a highly direct brand of football. His teams aim to create opportunities and move the ball into the opponent’s penalty area with speed.
“Knowing Sean Dyche, I think everyone knows the style he wants to play,” Bednarek told Porto Canal. “He seeks very direct football, he wants to create opportunities and put the ball into the opponent’s area very quickly.”
The Polish international emphasized that Porto is ready for what awaits them. “We are prepared for that. Maybe there will be some surprises in terms of the team, but we will be prepared for everything.”
Facing a Premier League side offers a significant motivational boost for Porto. Bednarek described it as a major test for the club.
“I think it’s motivating to be able to face a team that plays in the best league in the world,” Bednarek stated. “It’s a great challenge for us and for everyone at the club.”
The defender added that the team is eager to showcase their abilities. “We are motivated to come here, show our qualities, show what we can play. It’s very good, I don’t think there’s fear, we are just excited to have the opportunity to show our worth.”
Bednarek acknowledged the difficulty of playing at Nottingham Forest’s stadium. He anticipates a demanding encounter.
“It’s a difficult stadium, but we are motivated,” he said. “We know what we can and must do to beat them.”
Porto has developed a clear strategy for the match. This plan focuses on creating scoring opportunities while maintaining a strong defensive shape.
“It will be a difficult, very demanding game, but we have a plan to try to win,” Bednarek concluded. “We hope to achieve that.”
