Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha Admits Disappointment After Underwhelming First Season

João Palhinha’s first season at Bayern Munich didn’t quite live up to his expectations. In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, the Portuguese midfielder analyzed his disappointing campaign, where he managed just eight starts. “In football, you’re sometimes up, sometimes down. I clearly expected to play more. Unfortunately, injuries and illness held me back from showing what I’m capable of.”

Despite a lackluster season, Palhinha remains determined to prove himself at the German giant. “I’m very focused on showing that I’m made for this club, and I’ll do it. I just want to focus on my work and ignore the outside noise. When you play for a big club like this, the pressure is intense.” His recent form in Munich was a far cry from his two standout seasons at Fulham under Marco Silva.

Reflecting on His Move

Palhinha has had limited playing time lately, with just 14 minutes in the last month. When asked if he regrets leaving the Premier League, the Sporting graduate emphasized his happiness in Germany. “I’m at a top club where I’m learning every day. Reaching Bayern’s level is a dream come true. Now that I’m here, my goal is to succeed. That’s all I want.”

He also praised Marco Silva, who is still aiming to qualify Fulham for European competitions for the first time since the 2011/12 season. “Fulham has had a top season. Marco’s work, the way he’s built the team, is great. The new players have helped him a lot.”

After playing 79 games over two seasons at Fulham, Palhinha’s time in Bavaria has been marked by misfortune, with only 24 appearances to his name.
