Temba Bavuma Fifth ODI century

The five-match ODI series between South Africa and Australia began on Thursday. In the first game, the South African team came to bat first. The team had a slow and very bad start. After 12 overs, the host team’s score was 33 runs and Quinton de Kock and Rassie Van der Dussen were out. Even after that, no batsman managed to stay in the crease for long. In such a situation, Temba Bavuma, who came to open the game, stayed in the goal area until the end. He scored an unbeaten 114 runs in 142 balls and the entire South African team was reduced to 222 runs. But Bavuma not only scored a century but also set a record in his courageous innings.

Became South Africa’s first such batsman

An English word used in ODI cricket is “carrying the bat”. It means that a batter starts the innings and remains unbeaten until the end until the team is completely out. Temba Bavuma opened this innings. The entire team played 49 overs and was limited to 222 runs. Bavuma remained unbeaten on 114 runs. This means he carried the bat for the entire inning. He was the second South African player to achieve this. Before him, Herschell Gibbs did so in 2000.

What’s special is that Gibbs had scored an unbeaten 59 runs in that innings and Bavuma played a century innings today. That is, he became the first South African batsman to score a century while carrying the bat. If we talk about the whole world, Bavuma became the sixth player to score a century while carrying the bat. Before him, Saeed Anwar from Pakistan, Damian Martin from Australia, Nick Knight from England, Alec Stewart from England and Upul Tharanga from Sri Lanka had done so.

Bavuma’s amazing ODI stats

Talking about Temba Bavuma, he scored his 5th century in ODI cricket. What’s special is that this was only his 26th ODI innings. In his 27th ODI match itself, he scored 5 ODI centuries for South Africa. He will also be seen captaining the team in the upcoming World Cup. He has a total of 1264 ODI International runs to his name so far, including five centuries and three half-centuries. His average is an incredible 54.96. The hit rate is also over 90.
