A disturbing case of sexual abuse has come to a close with the sentencing of a 39-year-old man to seven years and ten months in jail. The perpetrator, who served as an official at a Baby Soccer club, was found guilty of abusing two teenagers, aged 13 and 14, in July 2022. This role gave him access to the children, including the victims, as confirmed by research sources.
Although the complaints date back to 2022, the case was only recently passed to the Prosecutor’s Office specialized in sexual crimes on February 16, 2024, under the direction of Verónica Bujarín. It was during the investigation process that the defendant, who had been a fugitive, was finally apprehended.
Investigation and Sentence
The prosecutor requested not only a prison sentence but also an economic sanction to compensate the victims, equivalent to 12 salaries, and the registration of the convicted individual in the National Registry of Violators and Sexual Abusers. The victims’ testimonies played a crucial role in the Prosecutor’s Office decision-making process, as stated in the sentence.
Prior Interventions
Before the case reached the Prosecutor’s Office, family justice had intervened, ordering the prohibition of approach and communication between the investigated individual and the victims. However, the perpetrator repeatedly violated these orders. The case continued through the criminal justice system, ultimately resulting in a conviction resolution that was made public in early February.
The sentenced individual’s actions have had a profound impact on the victims and their families, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and swift action in cases of sexual abuse. The outcome of this case serves as a reminder of the importance of the justice system in holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
