The Big Bash League is just around the corner. Teams are gearing up for the 2025 season, and player selections are in full swing. Sydney Sixers have made a big splash by signing Pakistani cricket sensation Babar Azam.
This move came before the overseas draft, where each team gets to pick one international player. Babar Azam will join forces with Australian cricket legend Steve Smith on the Sydney Sixers.
In the Big Bash League, teams work within a salary cap. They categorize players and pay them accordingly. Two players can be signed for 50,000 Australian dollars each. However, international players like Babar Azam can command a much higher salary – up to 420,000 Australian dollars. That’s around 2.35 crores in Indian rupees.
But here’s the thing: Babar Azam’s salary in the Big Bash League is surprisingly low compared to what some Indian players earn in the IPL. Take Priyansh Arya, for example. He was bought by Punjab Kings for 3.5 crores, and he hasn’t even made his debut for the Indian cricket team yet. Babar Azam, on the other hand, is a household name in Pakistani cricket, but his BBL salary is significantly lower.
The Sydney Sixers will have to shell out a hefty sum for Babar Azam, but it’s likely to be less than the maximum allowed. The team’s salary structure and budget will dictate how much they can offer him.
As the Big Bash League gears up for another exciting season, fans can’t wait to see Babar Azam in action alongside Steve Smith. Will the Sydney Sixers make a splash this season? Only time will tell.
