With the gold in the 4X400 mixed quartet and the silver for sprinter José Arnaldo González in the 100-meter dash, athletics got off to a good start at the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games that are being held here.

On the track at the Mágico González Stadium, the quartet from Quisquey, made up of Alexander Ogando, Lidio Andrés Feliz, Fiordaliza Cofil and Anabel Medina, took first place by covering the distance in 3:14.97.

“This is a very important event because we are preparing for the World Cup and the Pan American Games,” said Lidio Andrés Feliz after the win, while Cofil added: “It has been a joint win, I am confident, and I overcame some setbacks for this achievement. We practice hard to put the homeland on high ”.

The silver medal went to the representative of Cuba, who did a time of 3:16.97, while Colombia won the bronze, with 3:20.36.

With the result, the quartet from Quisquey also established a record for the Central American and Caribbean Games, since it is the first time that this specialty has been run in this regional multi-sport event.

The Dominican participation will continue this Tuesday with the participation of Marileidy Paulino, in the semifinal of the 400 meter dash, at 8:10 in the morning (10:10 AM DR time).
