To the least eleven people have died this Tuesday after the collision of a truck with a bus in the town of Sorriso, located in the state of Mato Grosso, in western Brazil.
As reported by the Federal Highway Police (PRF, for its acronym in Portuguese), the bus was transporting 45 passengers and the event has left several people injured in serious condition who have been transferred to a hospital.
The transport company Expresso Itamarati has announced in a statement that they have sent an employee to the scene of the incident to provide support to the victims and their families, according to the G1 portal.
According to an expert at the scene, one of the lanes has a tire mark caused by heavy braking, which would indicate that the bus entered the opposite lane.
According to the superintendent of the Highway Police, preliminary reports indicate that the bus driver, who is in serious condition, had fallen asleep at the wheel.
