A year ago, almost to the day, Samuel Paty, professor of history and geography, was assassinated. A day of tribute is organized in schools, colleges and high schools, Friday, October 15, with a minute of silence.
On October 16, 2020, Samuel Paty, a history and geography teacher, was assassinated. A year after the tragedy, a day of tribute and a minute of silence will be held on Friday, October 15, in schools, colleges and high schools, in his memory. In a college in Vire (Calvados), an exhibition was set up on freedom of expression and press cartoons.
“Samuel Paty, it was a shock for them. We immediately had students who sent messages of support. We see that they are not indifferent”, testifies Charlotte Maupile, professor of history-geography and moral and civic education. In a final year class, another teacher looks at the origins of the terrorist attack and the facts: the impact of social networks, the Charlie Hebdo attacks, nothing is ruled out. Citizens’ initiatives are also being organized, in particular with groups of parents of pupils and teachers.
