Assam CM extends Zubeen Garg tributes: Fans can pay respects Monday

Thousands of mourners converged, creating a powerful wave of grief, all hoping for a final glimpse of the beloved singer Zubeen Garg. In response to this outpouring, Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced via social media that fans would have another chance to pay their respects on Monday. The much-anticipated funeral is expected to take place in the next two days.

Chief Minister Sarma shared an emotional message on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He acknowledged the deep desire of many to see Zubeen one last time. “We truly understand these feelings,” he wrote. To accommodate the public, Bhogeswar Baruah Stadium remained open all night. Zubeen’s mortal remains will also be available for public viewing in Sarusajai tomorrow, Monday.

Tributes Continue to Flow

The flow of tributes to Zubeen Garg shows no signs of slowing down. Chief Minister Sarma posted again, this time sharing photographs from the ongoing public mourning. In his second post, he referred to Zubeen Garg as “Assam’s rockstar.” He remarked that the affection and love Zubeen earned over the years would forever be his lasting legacy.

Inspecting the Final Resting Place

On Sunday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also visited a proposed site for Zubeen Garg’s funeral. According to PTI, this location is in Sonapur, just outside Guwahati. The Chief Minister had previously stated that the final decision on the burial site would be made by Sunday evening, following discussions with Zubeen Garg’s family.
