Arouca Coach Seabra: Loss ‘Frustrating Because It’s Ungrateful’

Arouca’s coach, Vasco Seabra, voiced deep frustration following a 0-2 home defeat to Moreirense, characterizing the loss as “ungrateful” despite his team’s significant possession and what he described as their best defensive performance of the season.

Seabra asserted that his team’s effort warranted a better result. He stated the game was “frustrating because it’s ungrateful.”

He noted that Arouca frequently won the ball through high pressing. This made it difficult for Moreirense to build attacks from the back.

Despite the volume of play and ball possession, Seabra lamented a critical lack of assertiveness near the opponent’s goal. He identified this as the primary factor in the team’s inability to convert chances.

Seabra paradoxically called the match Arouca’s “best defensive game” of the season. This assessment came despite conceding two goals.

He emphasized the team needs to do “five times more” for success. Maintaining a cohesive defensive block and reducing errors are crucial next steps.

The coach also addressed his struggling forward line. Striker Barbero is experiencing anxiety, though Seabra considers him a natural finisher.

Jansonas requires more time to adapt to the league’s demands. Nandín, who scored last season, has encountered more difficulties this year.

Seabra defended his decision to start goalkeeper Nico Mantl. This choice was meant to reward Mantl’s development.

Mantl’s pre-season was not ideal, but he offers solutions for playing out under high pressure. The previous starter, João, was in good form.
