Arne Slot Slams Liverpool’s ‘Abnormal’ Everton Derby Schedule Congestion

The highly anticipated Merseyside derby is set to kick off the early afternoon’s football action. Liverpool will host Everton, but there’s a significant wrinkle in the lead-up: Liverpool faces its third game in just seven days. Meanwhile, their city rivals, the Toffees, have enjoyed a full six days of rest before this fierce clash. This scheduling imbalance certainly caught the attention of Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, who didn’t hold back his thoughts.

“We’re definitely used to playing during the week,” Slot explained, “but it’s just not right to play on a Sunday, especially after a Wednesday European game, and then have another match on Saturday at 12:30 PM.” The Dutch tactician detailed their efforts to manage the tight turnaround. “We made sure to focus on recovery right after our Champions League match. And just yesterday, we held our training session a bit later than usual. This was all about giving the players extra time to rest up. It’s truly the best we can do under these circumstances.”

Despite the challenging schedule, Slot’s excitement for the derby remains clear. He understands the unique energy this fixture brings. “Everton had a really good transfer window this summer, and they’ve built a strong team,” he remarked. “This match is always something special, no matter what.”
