Ariana Grande Feels Good Returning to Brunette After Playing Glinda in ‘Wicked’

Ariana Grande has officially returned to her brunette roots. The 32-year-old singer and actress showcased her new chocolate brown hair on Instagram this past Wednesday, October 29. This transformation follows her blonde appearance for the role of Glinda in the upcoming Wicked films.

Grande posed for the camera, displaying her freshly dyed hair with a side part and voluminous curls. She completed her look with full makeup, featuring defined eyebrows, winged eyeliner, extra-long lashes, contoured cheeks, and glossy lips.

"It’s good to see me, right? 🫧," Grande captioned her post, playfully referencing a line from her Wicked character. She also tagged her stylist, Francesco De Chiara, and makeup artist Michael Anthony, who crafted the look.

Fans quickly celebrated the change in the comments section. Many expressed their excitement, with one writing, "Ahhh, the brown hair is back! 🤎😍" and another adding, "Love this hair color on you." Numerous brown heart emojis flooded the replies.

Grande previously sported honey blonde hair for her role as Glinda in Wicked and Wicked: For Good. The second part of the musical adaptation is set to premiere on November 21.

The actress spoke with Vogue in September 2024 about her decision to lighten her hair for the role. She explained that going blonde helped her to "deconstruct her pop image" and fully embody Glinda, despite wearing wigs during filming.

Beyond the blonde hair, Grande also bleached her eyebrows for the character. She humorously mentioned the experience during a Variety chat in January.

"Glinda demanded a lot of vocal work from me," Grande shared. "There are things that may never disappear. Some will, but I am very grateful for everything that will remain with us forever." She added, "And, you know, I’m still looking for my eyebrows. I’ll let you know if I find them — I hope not."

Grande also joked about her brows in September 2023 during a Vogue "Beauty Secrets" video. She confessed, "Right now, I’m like half Glinda. I’ve been bleaching my eyebrows for a year. I definitely need to touch them up." She then demonstrated filling them in with MAC Eyebrow Styler in Fling.

Last November, Grande openly discussed her fondness for Glinda’s makeup, stating it completely transformed her approach to cosmetics. She noted that Glinda’s look lacked thick liner or harsh creases. "It’s just a very warm, open, beautiful look," she described. "It’s a more honest representation of how you look."
