The news was given to the Swiss publication MacPrime. In this way, Apple clarifies that the satellite connectivity introduced in the iPhone 14 will be extended to more markets later this year.
Unfortunately, the US technology has not clarified which countries will be included in the first phase of expansion of this functionality. Still, keep in mind that more will join the list in 2023.
This guarantees that the satellite connectivity announced in the iPhone 14 will be extended to more users of this smartphone. We hope that Portugal can be among the first chosen with this novelty.
Satellite connectivity was conceived by Apple as one more method to support its users in the event of an accident or catastrophe. It’s designed so you never lose contact with emergency services, even when your mobile network fails.
When that happens, iPhone 14 will connect directly to satellites to send a distress message to relevant media. Under ideal conditions, it will take 15 seconds to send, or more than a minute if you are in an area with light to medium foliage trees.
For now, this is a feature that is only available in the US and Canada. It will be free for the first two years, which means that Apple will have plans to monetize this rescue feature.
