Apple Plans Sci-Fi Smart Homes with Robot, Hub, and AI Cameras

For a while now, tech enthusiasts have been feeling a bit let down. It seems that impressing users is harder than it used to be. Apple, known for its big reveals, has had its share of quiet years. But a shift might be coming. The company appears to be planning new gadgets that could turn everyday homes into something out of a science fiction movie.

We already live with smart homes, of course. Many people enjoy smart lights, thermostats, and other devices that make life easier. Yet, Apple looks to be cooking up something far grander. This comes from a new leak, shared by the well-known tech reporter Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. He’s often the first to spill the beans on Apple’s secret projects.

Meet the Apple Home Robot

Whispers about an Apple-branded home robot have been around for some time. Early reports suggested a robot with an iPad-sized screen and a movable arm. Now, it seems this machine could actually move around. It might even talk with several people at the same time, holding complex conversations.

Apple reportedly wants this robot to feel like another person in the room. It will run on a new version of Siri, a Large Language Model designed for more natural chats. This new Siri will have its own unique personality and can keep a conversation going. To make it feel even more real, Apple plans to give the robot a visual presence on its screen. Think of something like the AI character Cassandra.

Mark Gurman’s information suggests Apple aims to release this home robot in 2027. That’s a big year for the company. It would coincide with the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, potentially alongside a new iPhone Pro model.

The Apple Smart Home Display

Another new product on Apple’s drawing board is a smart home hub. This device is simpler than the robot. It’s essentially just a screen, without any fancy arms.

This home hub will also have Siri built right in. It can handle all the usual smart home controls. But it can also do more, like playing music, taking notes, browsing the web, and even hosting video calls.

What’s really neat is that this Apple hub might recognize different people in a room. It could change its display or settings based on who walks up to it. This intelligent display is expected to arrive next year, possibly at the same time as Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone.

Smart Cameras to Complete the Picture

We’ve heard about Apple working on smart home cameras before. Now, more details are surfacing. These cameras will come with facial recognition and infrared sensors. Apple wants users to place them around their homes. They would work with the smart home hub to create a truly connected living space.

Imagine a camera seeing you leave a room and then turning off the lights automatically. Or, it could recognize you entering a room and start playing your favorite music. These cameras could add a new layer of personalized automation to your home life.
