At the Pixel 7 unveiling, Google announced a new dock that will turn the Pixel Tablet into a smart display that will control other smart home devices.
Now, new information indicates that Apple will do exactly the same thing with the new iPad. But there is a small detail: both companies will release the new dock only in 2023.
Apple imitates Google with a new dock for the iPad tablet
In early October, Google unveiled its new Pixel 7 and Pixel Watch lineup of smartphones, but it also lifted the veil a bit on what could come next year. One of these innovations was a new dock that will transform the Pixel tablet into a smart display that controls other smart home devices.
But it seems that Apple will follow the same path, making a similar device available for the iPad tablet as well. The information comes through Mark Gurman, a journalist for the Bloomberg news agency.
Gurman explains that, in a first phase, Apple intended to develop a new device that would combine the specifications of the iPad with a smart base. But it seems that the Cupertino company gave up that idea to “embrace” the creation of a dock, like Google.
Another point in common, according to the same journalist, is that both North American companies will only make this smart dock available next year -and the Pixel Tablet will also arrive in 2023-.
Apple may want to conquer the smart home market
Compared to Google, Apple’s expression in the smart home market is quite small. In this segment, the search giant has been making several launches that are successful among users, especially North Americans.
With this dock, Apple can conquer a more expressive position in this market and, who knows, even create more teams to try to lead this segment as well.
Other Apple-related news also reports that the company is working on a new version of the HomePod. According to Mark Gurman, the new device will be bigger than the HomePod mini, but smaller than the original.
Which means that Apple is attentive to user preferences. It should be remembered that the mini model ended up being more successful than the base model, having contributed greatly to the income obtained with this product.
Unfortunately, Mark Gurman didn’t elaborate on what we can expect to see from the new HomePod.
