Android 16 Adds Screen-Off Fingerprint Unlock Feature for Enhanced Security

Google just rolled out a fresh update for Android 16, making it possible to scan your fingerprint on the screen even when it’s turned off. This new feature, called Screen-off Fingerprint Unlock, is all about making things easier for users.

To try it out, head to Settings, then Security & privacy, Device unlock, Face & Fingerprint Unlock, and finally Fingerprint Unlock.

This feature first showed up in the Android 16 Developer Preview 2, but back then it only worked on the Pixel 9. However, with the launch of Android 16 Beta 3, Google made it available on all Pixel devices.

Android Authority tested it on a Pixel 6a and it worked just fine. Others have also tried it on a Pixel 7 Pro with success. This means the feature should work on any Pixel model, old or new.
