Amazon, Alibaba and Mercado Libre: Differences and similarities

According to the report Global Marketplace Titans made by Insider Intelligence, Alibaba’s online sales in China were nearly double Amazon’s worldwide in 2022, at $1.229 trillion compared with roughly $657 billion for Amazon. For its part, Mercado Libre had significantly fewer online sales, with almost 35,000 million dollars.

These differences can be attributed to the size of the market. China currently accounts for roughly 50% of global ecommerce sales, while the United States, Amazon’s largest market, accounts for around 18%, and Latin America less than 3%.

Alibaba’s share in its key market is also the highest, capturing 42.7% of e-commerce sales in the Asian country. on your side, Amazon accounted for 38.2% of online sales in the United States. However, Mercado Libre’s share was much lower, with 20.9% of ecommerce sales in Latin America.
