Akshay Kumar’s Kesari 2 Inspired by Web Series The Waking of a Nation

The trailer for Akshay Kumar and R. Madhavan’s film “Kesari: Chapter 2” has dropped, garnering a huge response. Alongside the trailer, the concept and acting have also been praised. This film is based on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

On April 13, 1919, General Reginald Dyer ordered his troops to fire on a crowd of unarmed Indians, including men, women, and children, during the annual Baisakhi festival. The park’s only exit was blocked, trapping thousands. The film explores the aftermath of this event.

A similar story

Several films and shows have been made about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, but “Kesari 2” tells the story of what happened next. The film is set to release in theaters on April 18, 2025. However, a web series with a similar plot, “The Waking of a Nation,” was released on an OTT platform on March 7.

Cast of “The Waking of a Nation”

“The Waking of a Nation” was directed by Ram Madhvani and features actors like Taruk Raina, Sahil Mehta, and Nikita Dutta. The web series was produced by Ram Madhvani and released on Sony Liv.

PLOT of “The Waking of a Nation”

The web series “The Waking of a Nation” shows the events surrounding the Jallianwala Bagh massacre through the eyes of lawyer Kantilal, a fictional member of the Hunter Commission. When General Dyer orders his troops to fire on the crowd, Kantilal risks his life to expose the conspiracy behind the massacre. This plot bears a resemblance to “Kesari: Chapter 2.”

Ram Madhvani on the similarity

When asked about the similar plots, Ram Madhvani told Bollywood Hungama, “We knew about it. We knew four years ago that Akshay and Dharma Productions were making this film with Ananya Panday and R. Madhavan. We knew it was about a court case in London.”
