After 7 years, Iran appointed ambassador to UAE

Iran has appointed its ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the first time since 2016.

According to the British news agency Reuters, it has been reported by Iran that a new ambassador has been appointed for the United Arab Emirates and Reza Amiri will soon take charge of his position.

It should be noted that in August, the United Arab Emirates announced to improve its relations with Iran and send an ambassador there.

According to Reuters, the latest developments are part of efforts to rebuild relations between the Gulf states and Iran.

It should be noted that after the execution of a Shiite leader by the Saudi government in 2016, Iranian protesters attacked the Saudi embassy in Tehran, and Riyadh severed relations with Tehran. Considering this, the United Arab Emirates also reduced relations with Iran later.

According to Iranian state media, Iran’s new ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Reza Amiri, has worked as the director general of the Office of Iranians Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to an Iranian government official and a Saudi-owned newspaper, a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan is scheduled for Thursday in Beijing. This will be the first meeting between the top officials of the two countries in the last seven years.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters that the two foreign ministers had agreed to meet each other in Beijing on April 6, facilitated by China.
