The Mission is a Netflix adaptation of the eponymous novel by Paulette Jiles. Directed by Paul Greengrass, the cast consists of Tom Hanks and Helena Zengel. The story traces the journey of a former Texan captain, traveling from town to town to tell the news of the world aloud.

Remarkably performed by Tom Hanks, Finch is a survivor, evolving in a post-apocalyptic world, and suffering from loneliness and illness. Thus, he will form a surprising trio, with his dog, and Jeff, the robot he will create to take care of his animal when he dies.

The relation between Finch and Jeff is poignant, she establishes herself in the image of father and son, as Tom Hanks transcribes the feelings of his character with perfection, letting the viewer dive into the heart of the dialogues with emotion. It’s a beautiful film, or adventure, the main characters undertake an inevitable journey west for their salvation. Whatever they find, they’ll have to find themselves first.
